The last of the quartet singers, like Mukesh, Rafi and Kishore Kumar, Dey dominated the Hindi music industry from the 1950s to 1970s.
Those who heard his songs once would surely remember it for a lifetime, such was their effects. But his creations were not just limited to Hindi music industry only. He has numerous masterpieces in Bengali, Gujarati, Marathi, Malayalam, Kannada and Assamese. In total he has over 3500 songs. His last creation was for the 2006 film " Umar "
Dey, died in Bangalore on Thursday, He was 94. He was suffering for several months from a lung ailment.

Dey is also known for hits like Kasme vaade pyar wafa and Yaari hai imaan for veteran actor Pran in Upkaar and Zanjeer, thus contributing immensely to Pran's transition from negative roles to character parts in cinema.
